No purchase necessary

The Hyattsville Holiday Treasure Hunt is free to play. No purchase or payment of any kind is necessary to enter, to play, or to win, and no purchase will improve your chances. You do not need to buy anything at any participating business. Holiday Points, XP and coins are earned by playing and cannot be bought.

Who may play

Anyone may play. The account holder must be 18 or older. Children are welcome to play on a parent or guardian’s account. Prizes are awarded to the account holder.

One account per player or family. Employees of Adventure Local, LLC and their immediate families are not eligible for prizes. Accounts marked by the organizer as test accounts play normally but are not ranked and are not eligible for prizes.

The season

The hunt runs from 3:00am Tuesday, November 17, 2026 to 11:59pm Thursday, December 31, 2026, Eastern Time. A day runs 3:00am to 3:00am, so a visit made at 1am counts toward the day before.

Holiday Points start at 3:00am on Friday, November 20, 2026. Between November 17 and 19, check-ins and trivia earn XP and coins but no Holiday Points, and nothing earned before November 20 counts toward the prize standings.

How to earn Holiday Points

Check in at a participating business or landmark (one per place per day), answer the daily trivia question, keep a daily streak, complete a mission, send in a photo for a photo prompt. Some days carry a points multiplier, which is shown in the app before you check in.

Photos are reviewed by a person and earn points once approved. Photos submitted before the season ends will still be reviewed, and points for approved photos count toward final standings.

How prizes work

Prizes are donated by participating businesses and are listed in the app. When the season ends, eligible players choose their prize in order of final Holiday Points standing: the player in 1st place picks first, then 2nd, then 3rd, and so on until all prizes have been claimed. Standings are final as recorded by the organizer at 11:59pm on December 31, 2026.

Tie-break

If two or more players finish on the same number of Holiday Points, the earlier pick goes to whoever reached that total first, according to the organizer’s records.

One prize per household

No more than one prize will be awarded per household. A household means everyone living at the same mailing address. If two players in the same household would both place, the higher-placed one picks and the next eligible player moves up.

Claiming your prize

Winners are contacted at the email address on their account and must claim by January 15, 2027. Players are notified in standing order and have three days to make their pick before the next player is offered theirs. A player who misses that window keeps their place in line and may pick from whatever remains when they reply, up to the January 15 deadline. A prize not claimed by then may be forfeited and offered to the next eligible player.

The organizer may disqualify any account that shares codes, submits photos it did not take, or otherwise plays dishonestly.

Your data

We collect your name, email address, and optional phone number to run the hunt and to contact you if you win. When you check in, we may record your location to help keep the game fair. Photos you submit are reviewed by the organizer. If you give permission, the participating business may share your photo on its social media. When you sign up we add you to our email list, so you will get occasional news about the hunt and about future Hyattsville adventures. Every one of those emails has an unsubscribe link, and you can use it at any time. We do not sell or rent your information.
